Power For Wrestlers – Single Best Exercise For a Wrestling Strength and Conditioning Program!

As a strength and conditioning professional I have to say that kettlebell training is a definite vehicle for success when it comes down to the most effective way to train your body for hand to hand combat. In the realm of kettlebell training the overhead snatch is the king of all kettlebell lifts. This single lift should be at the top of the food chain as your top choice for power training exercises. Read on and get better.

The single arm overhead kettlebell snatch is a very dynamic lift that is great for helping you develop powerful shoulders to take and dish out punishment more than anything, it develops hip power, core strength, and gives you the cardiovascular conditioning of an unstoppable athlete. This lift is performed by you lifting a single bell from either the ground or from between your legs up to a held position above your head in one smooth explosive movement.

This is done by you having to initiate a key technique in kettlebell training known as the hip snap. The hip snap is done by you forcefully flexing and then extending at both your hip and knee joints in order to vertically pull the kettlebell up to a height and position lateral to your head. Once the kettlebell is at this position you must lock out your body and pull your arm back to lean into the bell. The bell will literally be next your head at this point and at a weightless position in the air. Once the bell reaches this weightless position you must then vertically punch your palm towards the sky to complete the lift. As you punch your palm make sure to suck your shoulder into the socket and lock your elbow to support the load overhead. After attempting this lift your strength and conditioning workout will never be the same.

The overhead snatch is definitely one of the best sports conditioning exercises that you can include into your wrestling training program.
